Voices of SNAP-Ed

SNAP-Ed is a proven, cost-effective program that empowers people who receive SNAP to improve their health, stretch their food dollars, and become self-reliant. Without funding, 2.3 million low-income Americans are at risk of losing a program that improves dietary health, prevents chronic disease and supports strong local economies.

Our communities — teachers, farmers, store owners, legislators, community members, kids and grown-ups — have come together to share why SNAP-Ed matters. Will you join us as we stand up for our most vulnerable neighbors?

“I grew up nutritionally insecure. When I went to college, I could count the number of fruits I had tried on one hand. In grade school, I was embarrassed by the lack of produce in my diet as I saw my peers open their lunch boxes to a colorful array of options. I love getting to teach students about eating as an adventure, and a way to celebrate and support our bodies. Being able to give students a safe, exploratory space to try new fruits and vegetables they otherwise do not have access to heals the part of me that was in the same position as a young girl.”

“SNAP-Ed has brought important energy and education to our farmers markets. The cooking demos and nutrition outreach events draw new shoppers, spark curiosity about healthy eating, and create a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere that benefits everyone. We truly believe these programs are vital to building stronger food systems and healthier communities.”
