This past Monday members of The Food Trust’s nutrition education team wrapped up a 6-week Cooking Matters for Families series with families from the School District of Philadelphia, made possible through the support of the William Penn Foundation. Featured dishes included mini pizzas made with English muffins, black bean and veggie quesadillas, fruit tarts (a favorite among the kids!), stir-fried rice, build-your-own noodle bowls, and everyone’s favorite—fresh guacamole. Throughout the series, families gained hands-on cooking skills, explored new foods, and learned practical strategies for preparing nutritious meals at home.

We loved seeing families learn new skills, try new foods, and create lasting memories in the kitchen, and we clearly have some very happy little chefs in these pictures!
“The cooking workshop was a wonderful experience for my family. The virtual format made it easy for us to participate together, creating meaningful bonding time and making meal preparation more inclusive for my children. It encouraged my child to try new foods and become more aware of nutrition labels. The workbook and printable resources were especially helpful, giving us something to refer back to as we recreate the meals. This program also inspired me to step outside my comfort zone and try new dishes that I had never made before.”
